Visible Connect: Year Three Social Kit

How to talk about our third annual accelerator program for nonprofits using mobile tech to serve their communities

Today, more than ever, nonprofit startups are finding creative new ways to create impact remotely. Many forward-thinking organizations are turning to mobile technology to disseminate information, resources, and opportunities to their beneficiaries, but bringing their operations online requires complex technical knowledge and guidance. Enter Visible Connect, a virtual accelerator program in a renewed partnership with Visible, a digital phone service. Over the course of 9-months, we’ll provide a cohort of six nonprofits with philanthropic capital, technical support, ongoing mentorship, funder introductions, and other support to help them scale.

Why mobile tech?

Our phones are at the heart of what we do, connecting us with people, information, and opportunity.

As of 2018, 77% of all Americans own a smartphone as do 94% of 18-to-29-year-olds. What’s more, the percentage of households owning a smartphone that earn less than $30,000 per year has increased 12 points in the last year alone. And Americans don’t just own phones, they spend over three and a half hours per day on them.

For the 24 million Americans without access to the internet, smartphones are unlocking new ways for people to get online. In fact, 1 in 5 cell phone users rely entirely on their devices for broadband internet. And once they are online, 60% of Americans use their phones to navigate important life events such as getting information on a health condition, applying to a new job, and gathering information on public welfare services.

The possibilities for social entrepreneurs to incorporate mobile technology into their services are limitless, particularly in the COVID-19 era when service delivery is mostly virtual. With the help of Visible Connect, they’re finding new and creative ways to scale their impact.
